To all the teachers, administrators, and staff at our schools. To all the architects and designers. We need to stop going with the safe choice. We need to challenge the classroom academically, but we also need to challenge the status quote in our classes and workspaces. We see a lot of the money go into the beautiful buildings and the budget for what matters, inside, is cut. We can have beautiful buildings and furniture, we just need to understand that 90% of our children’s time is spent in the classroom. It is a tool to inspire, recruit, and make students want to come back. Schools... you will get top teaching talent, top students, and a culture to envy. It is not enough to be an A rated school. Let’s start a crusade, a mission, a LEGACY. Reach out and let’s make a project roadmap for your next project. #NoMoreRows#interioravenue#interiordesign#classroomdecor#college#highschool#learning#education#redfored#k12#educationdesign#interiordesigner#highereducation#classroom#design#furniture#designthinking

Our mission at Kansas Virtual Academy (KSVA) is to help students discover, develop, and achieve the potential that's within all learners. Through our individualized approach to education, we strive to provide students with a thorough, rich experience.
KSVA uses the award-winning K12 curriculum. It is the hallmark of online curricula, providing challenging content-rich coursework that meets or exceeds state standards, allowing students to perform well on standardized tests. The K12 curriculum is developed by some of the finest minds in the country working together to provide a rich, thorough, and rewarding curriculum designed to help students think, analyze, and work at a higher level.
We are an "online" school, but what does that mean? For most students, it means they will now go to school from the safety of home, where they can focus on their studies without distractions; without peer pressure; and with the help of excellent state-certified teachers, caring counselors, and a parent or other adult "Learning Coach" to provide support. Daily structure and lessons are provided through a stimulating online school environment, where classes can meet together and learning progress can truly happen.
Our school serves students grades 7–12 across the state of Kansas and our program has a strong network of teachers, advisors, counselors and administrators dedicated to helping students reach their academic goals.
Here at Insight School of Kansas, we recognize that academic goals may be different for every individual. We strive to support students in their academic journey, at whichever point they might be. While we have many Advanced Placement classes and consistently graduate Kansas Scholars every year, we also work with students who may be behind in credits and get them back on track for graduation. Our dedicated staff and advising team work to support students in whatever their journey might be and we have many programs in place to support students in meeting their goals.
Insight School of Kansas offers a fresh start, with a different model that can set up your student for success. Our approach is not to judge students or families but to help them in ways that work.

How are you empowering students to use media creation in ways that will allow them to better their community both large and small? Let me know in the comments.

CTE Works for Businesses and the Economy:
Middle-skill jobs requiring education & training beyond HS but less than a BA degree are a significant part of the economy. Of the 55 million job openings created by 2020, 30% will require some college or an AA.
Families and their communities foster a child’s academic and social and emotional development and growth. As such, collaborative partnerships among schools, families, and community organizations are crucial to student engagement and success. One way for schools to form partnerships with parents and guardians of English Learners (ELs) is to establish English Learner Parent Advisory Councils (ELPACs) to promote and support the success of ELs.

If you know me, you know that the K-12 space is where most of my research, my work, and my heart sit. As a professional I've tried (and failed lol) to shy away from the traditional space of "the academy." However, for the past year I've had the opportunity to be a part of a brilliant research team at Virginia Tech. As a result, this Friday, I'll be a delivering a guest lecture on campus entitled, "Hi, My Name is Dr. Who? Re-calibrating your Identity After the Degree." This talk allows me to bring my academic and professional journey in alignment with what I believe is a newly budding element of my larger purpose in this life.
God has an interesting way of using a push out of my comfort zone to bring me closer to my purpose.
As my talk description notes, this conversation won’t provide any quick fixes on “how not to lose your identity in the Ph.D. process.” Nor is it a step by step guide on how to balance professional pursuits with the rest of life. My time with my audience time will simply be me sharing my story of the continual process of recalibrating my identity after the Ph.D., in hopes that I can leave even just one person with the curiosity necessary to dig a little bit deeper inside to discover who they are and what shapes their identity, and the commitment to themselves to never let anything (not even the pursuit of a Ph.D.) strip them of their most unique traits.
While I am honestly nervous, I'm excited to share my story with others in hopes to have just a tiny impact on the life of another person.
I'm grateful to all of those who have made this opportunity possible and who continue to support me along the way.
Student creativity can be overlooked, in part due to outdated built environments in which they learn. DLR Group is working to change that with our Student Innovation Challenge. These sessions give both teachers and DLR Group a chance to see how students collaborate, problem-solve, and invent in action, which can ultimately influence #education design. The results? Great ideas from bright minds and takeaways for both the participating districts and our #design team.

Sometimes when I go grocery shopping, the bakery has warm bread. And sometimes, like today, I will get a loaf just to attack in the car on the way home. It only costs about a dollar and a half and it’s just a way to carve out a perfect moment in my life that fills me with joy. Because really, what’s better than warm bread? Where can you find a perfect moment today? #perfectmoment

Yesterday I played with so much gratitude. It was so fun to experience that again. After all that has been going on this past week, my head was about to explode. ⠀
Usually when things in life get so crazy and feel like it’s all too much, volleyball sometimes feels like an added stressor. ⠀
However yesterday I was so excited to just get on the court, only concentrate on the game, be surrounded by my awesome teammates, and move my body. ⠀
We ended up coming back in the fourth set and took the team that’s currently ranked first in the league to five but unfortunately couldn’t close it out. ⠀
I was just happy to be there. ⠀
Today we play again — our last game of league play! Still lots going on in life, but again, I’m thankful that volleyball is currently providing an outside source of joy.⠀
Vamos USMP! One more to go!! ⠀
