I feel lucky considering my husband and I get paid on opposite weeks.... however my husband only gets one week vacation a year, no sick time and he has a medical condition which causes him to miss work frequently AND got in a bad accident last year which caused him even more issues.... One good thing is that he is doing really well right now and misses a lot less work then he used to!! It can be hard on him working mandatory 6 days a week but, this is how I've set us up for success for when those "short" paychecks come up so we don't have to stress as much.... *I always set his pay for lower then expected when I do our budget, just in case he misses a few hours. *Back in October I started making smaller weekly contributions towards our house payment since it's our largest bill. I took the payment, divided it by 4, (and rounded up😜) and thats the amount I take out every week. It goes into a sinking fund until it's time to send in the payment.... doing this weekly has currently set us up to be 2 weeks ahead!! *Since I get sick time and vacation my checks are never short. I pay the bigger bills (car pmt. and a debt consolidation loan). These are set up to be taken out a couple weeks before their due!! They go to my *Bills* capital one checking account where I pay a majority of our bills. *If he has a really good pay with overtime, I will look ahead and see what we could pay early!! *We now have a buffer of $350 in our local banks checking account (this is where our checks get automatically deposited). This is my safety net so it NEVER gets overdrawn.... I call it my *just in case fund* 😉 *We pay weekly on our electric (its a weird pay as you go type thing, it's actually pretty cool). There is a good amount built up so we can skip a week if need be. *I will change my budget for the current week if I know he missed a day. No eating out, only buy essentials, pantry challenge.... I look at the current weeks budget and see what I can cut to rollover $$ to the next week if necessary!! *If needed, I always have various sinking funds and my emergency fund as a last resort. I tried to set us up so that we minimize our chances of having to use those though!!
