Fulton Industrial Annexation - South Fulton vs Atlanta
'South Fulton Mayor Bill Edwards believs his city can better serve the district.
“Atlanta is a great city but one with their hands full and attention divided. Our city knows Fulton Industrial’s needs and issues,” he said. “We pass freeport exemption with them in mind. We’re already working on the parts of the corridor that are in our city to demonstrate results and commitment.”
The city already has an assigned council district--District 1 which would provide local representation for the area. South Fulton’s city hall is already on the corridor
“Our economic development department is working on efforts to attract new investors for development and redevelopment in the city which would include Fulton Industrial. South Fulton Fire Department through a contract with Fulton County provides fire and rescue,” he said. “We also service several neighborhoods in Southwest Atlanta.”
South Fulton adds that permitting is a 20-day timeline and wants to reduce it while saying Atlanta is raising fees and has not shortened their timeline.
Recently, the South Fulton Delegation introduced legislation, House Bill 121, which would place Fulton Industrial completely in the city limits of South Fulton upon passage and signing by the governor. It would apply to any unincorporated lands remaining in the area being assigned to South Fulton.'
