Ahhh running, shoes, and then marathon training. Us runners can sure go through a lot of running shoes in a year. Mine typically last two months during a training cycle. Maybe three otherwise. This has been a really slow year for me and I’m getting ready to purchase pair number 4. I also seem to need to change my shoe every 3 or 4 years. I’d worn Newtons for the last 5 years, but felt it was time for a change for some time. Enter the fantastic Brooks salesman at the @marinecorpsmarathon expo. Not only did he sell me in switching to the Brooks Ghost 11, but he convinced me that wearing my completely burned out Newtons on race day would not be a great idea, and that I would be fine wearing the Brooks. WHAT?? Did I actually do that? Yes I did, and I did not regret it! My legs and my feet felt great, and in the following weeks I had no issues with the transition. I absolutely love these shoes. The cushioning is great...something this forty something with back issues appreciates. The laces are smooth and stay tied, and the tongue stays in place, even after 20 miles. I wore Brooks before I switched to Newtons, and though my Newtons did exactly what I needed them to do for the time I spent in them, I’m thrilled to have Brooks on my feet again! Looking forward to a cushy new pair of Ghost 11’s for the @themiamimarathon in January! 30 miles in the next two days. Not worried about that test at all! Y’all have a super weekend!!

~See below long soppy post about loving running ~
Sharing my #WhyIStartedRunning story.
I started running to lose weight. It was three years after Jonathan died, and it was still heavy. When I ran there was so much potential, I could run faster, I could run farther, I could run up hills, I could run on trails. In the first year I met so many amazing people, that despite being vastly better than me, were always supportive and encouraging of my efforts.
The month of my first half-marathon, a year after I started running, my Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. As little as the running community may have known, they were what saved me through that period. It’s a horrible disease to watch a loved one suffer through. There’s so many appointments and medications and hard times, and emotions.
After nearly three years of running I may not have lost weight, but I gained so much more @kellykkroberts
I didn't think I could do a 7:30 minute mile 5k so I'm very happy. This is thanks to the speed/hill sessions once a week with @hinckley_running_club. I'll be doing more 5ks like parkruns because it's hard to know how to run them when you don't do any; do you have to just start off fast? How do you warm up? Do I buy lighter trainers? It normally takes me 5k just to get into the swing of things! #run#running#5k#polarrunning#polarwatch#ghost11#brooksrunning
Steady long run tonight, still concentrating on low HR throughout, still slow, but GETTING FASTER!!
Yes, it's frustrating, but it will be worth it! Plus, being steady means that it's fairly easy and relaxing so still get to listen to some fun stuff on the headphones without getting distracted
Earlier this year I injured my hip by carrying my 2 year old daughter around Disneyland. My muscles weren't strong enough to support the weight and eventually started tilting. It hurt like hell. I started PT and worked on my strength training. One of the first questions my PT asked was when I felt the most pain. Hands down, running. Everything would flare up and I would be in pain for days. I was legit humpty dumpty and just wanted to relieve the constant pain. I had zero desire to ever run again. He kept asking if I tried running and it was always a firm, hell no. Months of rehab and I get a text from @runlaurarun28 asking if I wanted to run Disneyworld Starwars Rival Run challenge. My Disney challenge last year was a huge fail. My confidence in myself, my pace and strength was at a low. I wanted so bad to redeem myself and decided to sign up. I immediately downloaded Zen lab fitness training app, joined MRTT and started running consistently. I've cried many times during my runs and each time it's for the same reason. I'm overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that I'm able to run again. As we reached the finish line today I felt myself tear up. I may not be the fastest but that's not my journey. I'm a participant in something so much bigger than I am. And for that, I'm so very thankful.

Running away from conflict like... 😂 is anyone else like this ? 🤦🏽♀️
On another note, it’s now been over 1 month that I’ve been using my @brooksrunningau Ghost 11 shoes. I’ll be honest, I haven’t gotten many runs in due to some persisting back and knee issues 🤷♀️ BUT as I’m sure you’ve seen in my photos, I have worn them every single day to training and work 😂
I’m a flat footed human but no lie it feels like I’m training and walking on air with these bad boys! 🙌🏽👏🏽
Cheers again @brooksrunning for being so kind and letting me test out these runners, I love them!
