The @wsl Mavericks Challenge could set a precedent for all sporting events in California to offer equal pay for equal play, without gender discrimination. This is the Title IX of our generation! 🌊 “On February 11, Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath, who represents California’s 76th District in North San Diego County, introduced Assembly Bill 467, called the ‘Equal Pay for Equal Play’ measure. If passed into law, the bill would require any competitive sporting event with different male and female divisions hoping to run on state-managed lands to offer equal prize money for men and women... The committee hearing process for it is set to begin on March 14th.” Full story by Dylan Heyden up on @theinertia 📷 @frank_quirarte_photo@wsl#BigWaveTour#equalpay#catchthiswave
In the halls of the supposedly democratic government of the richest country in the world, the poorest members of our society hold places in line for lobbyists trying to influence our elected representatives with money and a variety of other perks. This is America.
What I heard at my annual trek to the #OEFFA conference: 1. Since 1900, 97% of all seed varieties have been lost. 2. A yarrow tincture mixed with rose honey is lovely and yarrow is a bad ass healer. 3. Oinka Abraham’s work, “It’s important to recognize the very real ways farming has been used as a tool of oppression in the past, so we don’t replicate them in the present. Our current food system is still used as a tool of oppression in so many ways, against people of color, against people with disabilities, against immigrants and women and farm workers. It’s important to share these stories as a way to join together and to dismantle the system and build something better and more just in its place.” 4. An organic grain farmer who had threats from the government to cut down or put chemicals on his fields, “I would defend it with my life.” 🥕 🍆🥔 #seedsovereignty#opensourceseedinitiative#equity#advocacy#sonicationpollination
Amazon is by far the largest employer in the tech industry, mainly thanks to its sprawling logistics network. By the end of 2018, the company employed nearly 650,000 people worldwide (incl. seasonal workers), making it the only U.S. company beside Walmart to employ more than half a million people 🔥💰🚀📈
“Schools across the country are adorned with posters of the 45 U.S. presidents and the years they served in office. U.S. history textbooks describe the accomplishments and challenges of the major presidential administrations. Nowhere in all this information is there any mention of the fact that more than one in four U.S. presidents were involved in human trafficking and slavery. These presidents bought, sold, and bred enslaved people for profit. Of the 12 presidents who were enslavers, more than half kept people in bondage at the White House.” Continue reading via @zinneducationproject linked in my stories and on Patreon.

Home prices are going up — and so is the amount of equity homeowners have.
The only problem? Many of those homeowners can’t access that cash because their credit scores are too low for them to qualify for a home equity loan.
That’s where EasyKnock comes in. The 2-year-old company pays owners for their homes and allows them to stay as renters for up to five years. At any time, homeowners can repurchase their homes. Or they have the option to keep or sell it to someone else at the end of the five-year period.
This isn’t your traditional investor purchase, though. EasyKnock’s model protects the company from depreciation of the home over time, while also giving the homeowner a future stake in any appreciation in value.
