My students are loving our novel, “Refugee.” It’s provided an opportunity for us to have rich discussions and I’ve incorporated some great @newsela articles for our small group. I have a chapter book companion that goes with this novel, too! Head over to my store to see more. #teachersoftpt
The faces of Common Core:
1. Shock 😳
2. Confusion 🤪
3. Acceptance 😌
4. “How?” 🥴
There is a ton of legitimacy to #commoncore, it challenges students to think critically 🧠 in a way that makes learning more meaningful and concepts sink in. I am totally a fan of its depth of knowledge.📍
As a teacher though, it is COMPLEX. 🤯 Common Core is a load of repetition and intertwining words and higher order processing- and incredibly DIFFICULT to understand, let alone teach. 😵 This week, I learned that I truly don’t know the standards as well as I need to, to teach my students effectively (which is OKAY). Baby steps for this baby teacher. 🤩
Went on stories today reaching out to all my #newteacher friends, how can we unpack this?!

These two little humans are my world!
I am beyond proud to call myself their mother and I take that job very seriously.
I may be strict and have high expectations for them, but that is only because I want nothing but the best for them both, always. .
This girls teacher pulled my aside yesterday to congratulate me on having the best math student in all of 5th grade! What an amazing skill set to have.
Common Core was launched the year she started Kindergarten, and while I struggle to fully understand why they do everything different now, she has never has a problem she couldn't solve.
This boy is going to be an architect when he grows up! He spends his days building all different things in every medium possible. From drawing with pencil, to building with legos, creating little 3D houses with just scissors and paper to wooden blocks. His imagination is unlimited!
No matter how much they may frustrate me and test my limits every day, I will always love them with all of my heart.
I started this journey because of them. Having my doctor tell me that I was obese, pre-diabetic, anemic and could plan on spending the rest of my life sick and on medication, scared the fuck out of me.
I NEED to be healthy, I NEED to be here for my children, I NEED to set an example for them. If I don't, who will?
Don't push your own health off any longer, I know I did for too long. Luckily I was able to start making changes a year ago and now I am in the best shape of my life! We need to take care of ourselves if we want to be able to take care of others. Reach out now and I'll get you started today!😘
This @lakeshorelearning box has been sitting on a shelf in my classroom for over a year! Today we are starting to use it and we are so excited! I’m excited to have something different for my earlier finishers to use that gives them some hands on practice. They are excited to have something new and shiny with choices for the skills they feel most comfortable with! The drawers are filled with manipulatives and the back of the box has 50 Common Core Math file card activities! •
Each month, my students work independently on a writing prompt. I always love these to see their creativity shine. It’s also great practice on working through the writing process on their own. This whole year of prompts is available in my store! #teachersoftpt
#repost#commoncore Remember a few posts ago when I told you how I use to be in school. Well this kid reminds me a lot on how I use to be. I use to call out the bullshit we were learning and the teachers hated it. I think I made 3 English teachers cry about how useless Romeo and Juliet was. It’s sad to think we even learned about this shit more than once.
We are sold this idea that America is the land of the free and home of the brave, but yet the FACT is this country committed two of the largest documented genocides in history and is the core reason Zionists run the world. The so called brave people sit down when the elites talk and never stand up against the immoral orders. This country has invaded over 100 countries in the past 14 years and has created more chaos than any so called terrorist organization. I’m sorry to break your reality on this country but I’m just getting started. Our banking system is the core reason for the endless wars, corrupt politicians, poison in our air, food and water. They sell us this idea of freedom to counter all the negative shit taking place. You think your free because your told your free but you are far from it. In fact you should never have to be told your free. You don’t have a right to vote as the bloodlines choose who will be in power, you don’t have a right to know what’s in your food and water, the education system is a form of indoctrination, your sovereignty has been stripped from (although you can reclaim this at any moment once you awaken to the truth). I understand how this can be taken as a negative thing but this is the realest and most positive message I can share with you. There is nothing more empowering than knowing the truth and waking up to the illusions we all were fed. #standup911 ™@standup911
