Time to break out more classic horror. Film 15 on my #roadtohalloween was #theshining which theme is #horror#drama . #stephenking is famously critical of this adaptation of his book by #stanleykubrick . He certainly did not like the choice of lead actors and thought #jacknicholson portrayal was already an unhinged character before the Hotel took over his mind. I however love the job that him and #shelleyduvall did. Nicholson is at his insane best here and his improvised #heresjohnny quote will be embedded in horror legend for a long time. Shelley Duvall was famously bullied and isolated by Kubrick to get the performance she produced which must have been the most torrid time in filming ever, especially with Kubrick being notorious for doing so many takes to perfect his film. The directing and visuals capture the haunting masterfully and the stedicam shots following Danny rolling down the corridors only to see the twin girls at the end of it is so iconic. An immortal classic of a film 10/10 from me.
In the spirit of hard work and whatnot, I thought I would share a photo of my work station. I like to keep a few #horror trinkets nearby to keep me focussed. As you can see there’s Pinhead in all his glory, a sign to “Beware of Zombies”, but what you can’t see is my mouse mat, which sports the logo/emblem for Outpost 31 from John Carpenter’s masterpiece “The Thing”. Also, behind my computer you’ll notice a canvas of a lake and some mountains. It’s good to have a window above you to fight depression whilst you work. But I don’t have a window there so a canvas of a landscape will do just fine. Just thought I’d share 😋 #horror#amwriting#horrornerd#author#authorsofinstagram#allworkandnoplaymakesjackadullboy
