Real talk. I actually regretted getting a 50mm for my Crop Sensor APS-C camera back when I first started photography and videography. The 50mm is a popular recommendation on the internet especially as a second or third lens after the initial kit lens. However, when I got the Canon 50mm F1.8, I always felt like I was too close to my subject. I often had to backup a lot to the point where it didn't feel all that fun using the lens. Don't get me wrong, I was OBSESSED with the BOKEH at f/1.8 but ultimately I went back to a kit lens because of the versatility (and IS because my video footage was hella shakey with the nifty fifty). Looking back at it now, it was because I didn't understand a whole lot about cameras and lenses. I didn't know about crop factor or even if the lens was right for me. So I put together a guide on figuring out what your next lens actually should be! See the link in my bio! Of course, now I LOVE the 50mm on an APS-C because I love the 85mm on Full Frame! Share your experience below! What was a lens you got that made you realize it wasn't right for you? .
