WHAT I WISH I KNEW WHEN I STARTED RUNNING🤗
If I had only known this as a baby 17 year old when I first started running, I wouldn’t have quit running that same year & walked away from the sport for 10 years!😅🤦🏻♀️
❤️You’re not meant to be injured!
I thought running through pain and injury was a rite of passage.😬Not so much. Now I work to get better and find the source because who wants to be limping through training.🙄
❤️Learn to listen to your body!
Your body tells you everything you need to know. I know now to follow it over any schedule or coach. .
❤️Recovery makes you faster!
Going through enough cycles of training, I’ve seen how when I didn’t give my body the proper recovery, it became overloaded and succumbed to fatigue in training and I just ended up slowing down. I know that training is basically finding the PERFECT mix of hard work + the right rest. EVERY SINGLE PERSON IS DIFFERENT- so it’s just so important to listen to your body and see what works for you.
❤️Eat like you’re an athlete!
I used to believe that I could eat anything because I was running. Now I think of it as putting premium fuel in a sports car. I don’t count calories or restrict myself- but I try to mostly fill up on Whole Foods & then if I really want a treat here or there- I’ll go for it- but that’s not the mainstay of my diet. I feel better eating the way I do now-& health-wise, it’s also a ton better for my body & running recovery! *ps I eat gluten-free, mostly dairy-free, try to eat a lot of veggies, & use Whole Foods as my carb sources (aka no pasta - unless you’re counting chickpea pasta!).
❤️Rolling is CRUCIAL!
I had no clue why everyone was rolling. HAHAH. Now I realize it helps your muscles to freshen up faster for the next speed sesh- and also helps things from tightening up to the point that you now have an injury. Prehab over rehab!
❤️Bad days happen to everyone- don’t get discouraged!
Running is the best- but in order to really reach the success you dream of- you have to be able to handle the downs as well as you enjoy the ups. HA. Our bodies aren’t machines- and when it’s just not your day- you have to be able to process it well

On Sunday afternoon I was feeling smug with the world, Mr E was home from his travels accompanied by a bottle of gin bigger than my head, I had run 10km which I wasn't even sure I could still do given my levels of laziness since the Bournemouth Half Marathon and I was on target to hit my planned Run up to Christmas mileage. •••
Yesterday I was also smug, I didn't hurt from my run, I managed to fit in a prolonged lunch with the other Mrs Evans in my life, went to work and I actually checked what Christmas gifts I had brought people and was doing better on that front than I anticipated. I had a plan, my plan was to get up today and drop all the kids at their respective schools and run a casual 5 miles to "get back into the running swing of things".....and account for consumption of festive food.
Last night my smug smile was removed from my face when I spent 4 hours sat on the bathroom floor with a small person with norovirus 🤮🤢. Actually that's a lie at some points during those 4 hours I visited my washing machine on at least 3 occaisons and swapped out now clean bedding for vomity covered blankets, Pjs and towels. Thankfully at 4am me and Mr E had a shift change so he then sat with a vomiting small person while I did a couple of hours of sleeping until the 6am alarm clock went off. Isn't Adulthood just amazing 🙄.
So today I have not run 5 miles, instead I am functioning on strong instant coffee and have devoured a large xmas tube of orange Smarties. •••
I shall reschedule my run for tomorrow evening...in the dark.....and probably the rain....since the 48 hour rule means I will spend my day accompanied by a small person asking me 492652 times an hour why he's not at preschool 🤦🏼♀️
