The bronchitis is still alive and well, but today brings some new perspective...mostly because I got a full nights rest, the sun is shining and there’s a delightful chocolate covered sprinkled donut sitting in front of me. I love sprinkles on my donuts. Like a lot...probably more than most kids! 🥰
And I ran zero miles to deserve this donut (the best kind if you ask me!). My airways are starting to open up, the nebulizer is my close friend and I’m really hoping for even more improvement tomorrow. (Maybe even a little go at the treadmill 🤫). In the meantime, I’m enjoying all your #sundayrunday pics! And this donut is heaven-sent, I’m quite sure of it. 🙌🏻 #sometimesitsthelittlethings
Happy Sunday, friends!!

Last night was kind of scary. So! After an hour at the doctor’s office, a breathing treatment, a few more steroids and an order for a DME company to deliver a nebulizer to my apartment later today...I needed this latte.
Feeling eternally grateful for access to good healthcare, for a provider who is doing everything he can to be sure I’m able to breathe and for a system I can get into on the same day (when I need the care). I haven’t had the wind taken out of me like this in...maybe ever?! I’m still a little confused as to what’s going on in my body, but for now we’re focused on getting the asthma under control. I can run through anything. Unfortunately, not this. Hoping a few nebulizer treatments will change that and I’ll be back to some easy treadmill miles soon, but for now...I’m giving myself grace and space to rest. And enjoying every bit of this coffee that seems to be touching my soul. 🖤

Discouragement can strike in the form of anything. For me, it’s a pesky cold that’s unfortunately flared my (once very controlled) asthma and left me feeling like breathing is a chore.
It’s taken me the better part of the year to slowly come to terms with having asthma. It’s taken just as long to figure out the right dosing of inhaled steroid to keep it controlled. Turns out I have rather persistent asthma. It was finally controlled (through the help of a very patient doctor). Unfortunately, a cold for me can mean two things: 1. Just a normal, annoying, suffer through cold. 2. A cold that settles in my chest, flares my asthma and then with it comes bronchitis. The latter is what I’ve ended up with this month. Unfortunately, the runs that once came with ease now leave me feeling like I can barely breathe. Not being able to breathe is a scary thing. Living on my own and learning to rationally deal with a couple of the worst asthma attacks I’ve ever had...also scary.
So this week finds me discouraged. I’ll likely be visiting the treadmill a bit more often in the next few days, testing my airways. Today’s test didn’t go so well, but I’m learning to listen and back off. This is just a minor bump in the road. Nothing a round of antibiotics and steroids (fingers crossed) won’t fix.
Sometimes it’s easy to take things for granted...like breathing. But today, I’m missing my healthy airways.
To anyone else struggling with a bump in the road, I see you. 🖤

10 miles! ✅
First double digit run post CIM. 👍🏻
Empty box of Kleenex. 👎🏻
I’ve officially succumb to the seasonal cold that’s been plaguing our neck of the woods.
I foresee sweatpants and Netflix in my future!! But the sunshine out there is spot on! 👌🏻 Happy Sunday, IG!

Rang in 2019 with one of my best friends on and off the pavement.
We have big plans for the year ahead! And, for the first time ever, our race schedule doesn’t align, but we’ll be on the sidelines regardless!! Cheers to our first year with coaches and a year filled with lots of healthy, speedy miles!! Let’s crush 2019 @dennispminer!
(And maybe our dogs might even become friends... #tipsygetoveryourself 😑)

I ran one race in 2018. Just one. I was fortunate that all my hard work paid off and I came away with a fantastic PR. Sometimes the years of one race are more special than the years stacked with multiple PR’s. For me, this year means a whole lot more than a fast marathon. It was the first time I took a step back from running to prioritize my emotional well-being off the pavement. I always thought running was the thing that saved me, but for as long as that was my truth, it was just something that allowed me to “run” (literally) from other areas of my life that needed me to stand still. I was aware this year, for the first time ever. 2018 brought moments of heartache, but it also brought moments of immense healing. I’ve finally figured out how to run in a healthy way, not away from life, but very much with all that life brings. And that, my IG friends, is my favorite thing I’m taking away from 2018. 🖤

Anyone else live in a cold climate and simply feel like sweating it out every now and then in the winter? That was me this morning...probably in an effort to sweat out some toxins from this last week! 😂
75 min on the treadmill ✅
2019 is right around the corner and you’ll find me putting together some ideas for spring races this afternoon!! 💃

We may not recover quite as quickly as we did in our 20s, our eyes may have a few more wrinkles and the smile lines may be more line-like, but here we are, 13 years later...still loving each other through all the ups and downs of life. Thanks for being my very best, Sar.
Fly safe. I’ll see you soon in the mountains. 💕 @saracate

I really wanted today’s run to be just so—
It’s 45 degrees in December!!!! In Northern Michigan!! I love running up here, but my body didn’t really show up like I wanted it to. And in all honestly, a lot of that is on me. The Christmas cocktails and sweets have been out of control. I went into December with one goal: run the best marathon I’ve ever run. I did that. So then I decided the rest of the month would involve plenty of leeway to enjoy life. Well!! ✅
Turns out my body doesn’t recover quite as quickly as it used to. 🥂🍻🍷🤕🍷🥂🍻🤕
Life is short!! I’ve had so much fun catching up with friends and enjoying a few extra cocktails and all the Christmas sweets. And I’m SO looking forward to getting back on track!!! January is going to be back to business!! But until then, I’m still enjoying showing up for my runs and doing the best I can, regardless of the wine drank the night before.
Hope you’re all enjoying the holidays!!
