Spoiler alert: South Dakota is probably way cooler than you think.☺️🌻💛Amazing rock climbing, Himalayan tea (went back 3 times), hundreds of miles of underground gemstone caves, SUPER kind humans, highlines, deep cultural history, and my personal favorite... romping around in the vast backcountry of Badlands National Park. If you watched my stories from that sunset, you know☺️
🌻🌻 Thank you to @visitrapidcity for bringing me out and being a great base. (Everything we did was within about 45 min of our hotel!) Also thank you to @masha.photo for being down for this whole adventure and everything I threw at you from night hiking to ice cold river dips. #HifromSD#Badlands#SouthDakota#sunflower

Seeing Petra had been on my life wish list for about 10 years now. We arrived for one of the nights where the Treasury is lit by hundreds of candles and were extremely lucky to get a few minutes of early access on our @contiki x @treadright trip.
As the hauntingly beautiful notes of a flute filled the canyon I looked around at the diverse group of people gathering silently to watch. I’m in the Middle East for the first time. I have spent the day with inspiring women from @iraqalamircoop, who despite language barriers and cultural differences, remind me so much of bold and fun lady bosses in my life. I think it’s cool that travel has the ability to erase some of the boundaries or misconceptions I unconsciously hold and instead illuminate the commonalities. We all seem to be searching for the same things - a sense of community, the possibility to progress, and places that feel much bigger than ourselves.

The longest I’ve ever held my breath is 4 minutes. It certainly wasn’t comfortable (and in the freediving world this even isn’t a lot), but it was and still is a pretty big achievement for me☺️ .
Most my passions in life come from this fascination with the duality of comfort and discomfort. As I (attempted to) highline yesterday I realized how consistently stepping between the two brings a greater sense of equilibrium and appreciation to my life. How cool it is what our bodies can do or learn to do, and that maybe this is one of my favorite parts of being human.
This was shot last month while staying at the @westinhapuna on the beautiful #KohalaCoast on the Big Island. Thanks for keeping us extra cozy and well fed on property so we could be our best adventurous selves outside! We dove every morning and it was heavenly :)

I was very honored to spend last week with @contiki x @treadright and activist @celinescousteau learning more about their mission to #maketravelmatter. Each day we spent a portion seeing some of Jordan’s incredible historic sites (like this here in the ancient city of Petra) while also visiting with some amazing women-owned cooperatives like Iraq Al Amir.
I love travel. I think it’s been one of the most important factors of growth in my life. But as more of us travel (and especially as I feel I often encourage travel), I often think about practical ways to make our collective impact a positive one. There is no one right approach, but I loved this trip so much because I got to see one possibility of what that might look like.
Although Treadright is a nonprofit, rather than focus on charity, it empowers its local partners with the tools to create viable tourism-based businesses and connects them to a larger network of tour operators (like @contiki). We got to do everything from cooking classes to ceramics, hiking, hand picking figs, and buying unique locally-sourced products. Meeting the women of @iraqalamircoop and seeing their sense of pride and ownership over their many projects (among them: running a guest house for hikers on the Jordan Trail and hosting paper making classes) was equally as interesting and inspiring to me as seeing the windswept canyons of Wadi Rum.
Pretty sure no one reads thoughts this long😂 but yea the intersection of all these things just makes me really excited!!☺️
Ps: I lost all my photos when my phone broke, but for now if you’d like to see more of what we experienced please stop by my storyhighlight or the others on the trip for some really well written thoughts @treadright, @soultravelblog, @alisonsadventures and @celinescousteau. Thank you all for an unforgettable trip. Blog coming next week x

America the beautiful🇺🇸 Took a spontaneous sunset drive out to the Badlands our first night in @visitrapidcity South Dakota. Stunning. I’ve seen many deserts in my life but never one with pink striped mountains abutting soft green plateaus and perfect frolicking fields!!
@Masha.photo and I were actually looking for some sunflowers (recently learned South Dakota is the largest producers of 🌻 in the country!) hence the lack of hiking attire. But this little corner of @southdakota is home to two national parks and so many state parks so we’re getting out to do some proper exploring today and tomorrow.
Ps: It’s been particularly cool to receive so many DMs from people here in South Dakota being so proud of your home state (as you should be☺️). #sponsored#visitRapidCity#Badlands#SouthDakota#HifromSD

Do not fear being broken. Cracks are how the light gets in.💛

Nature is my muse💕// #sponsored by @canonusa. We were driving around under an oppressive gray sky. It had been raining but my friend @Masha.photo was visiting and we were super determined to be outside for sunset.
In the span of a few moments what was once unremarkable turned extraordinary as tendrils of vibrant clouds seemed to unravel in every direction. We sprinted from car as the nightly migration of green parakeets flew overhead and I changed my camera settings faster than I ever have in my life. Three minutes later it was gone again, but for a brief moment in time, well, this is what it looked like☺️ #ShootforGreatness#Hawaii#fleetingmoments

Where should I go next? :) I’m so grateful for all the unexpected places life has taken me to this year. I’m partnering with @lifeproof#sponsored to bring them along on all of my nëxt adventures, the namesake of their new lightweight case #LifeProofNEXT. Prior to this I’ve doing that no case lifestyle, which..three phones later, I’ve realized isn’t working out so well for me🙈
Lots of planning in the works but so far I’ve taken it with me as I froze here on what is technically the highest mountain on Earth (including the part under the ocean Mauna Kea is 33,000 ft tall!) to sweltering in 103 F at the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea (-1,377 ft.😊). Seemed like a perfect way to start by honoring all the inherent highs and lows of adventure, and beautiful unpredictability of journey between the two.
Up next...highlining and a new continent I’ve never been on(!) but I’d loved to hear any of your suggestions for really unusual or more unknown places I should consider🌍 #LiveLifeProof#Hawaii

That one day we drove for 5 hours with no map and thought we might end up in Saudi Arabia. I call this photo - the best of times camouflaged as chaos :) Hello sand storm, broken tire, uncertainty and empty space, you inspire me.✨

A lot of you have been asking where I’ve been :) Short answer is a few miles from here @robstrok and I managed to break most of the electronics we were traveling with, run out of cash, and drive hundreds of kilometers around Jordan in 43 degree C with no AC.😂 Since that day I’ve been floating in the amazing space of accidentally being sans phone in four different countries with the additional blessing of getting locked out of all my social media accounts. I’ve been laying under the stars in the desert in Wadi Rum, playing in this salty dream world of the Dead Sea, driving faster than I ever have in my life on the autobahn.... I’ve heard adventure begins when things start to go wrong and wow I have come away from this trip with more meaningful conversations and bizarre, vivid, beautiful memories than I know how to hold.
I’m in Germany now (playing catch up is hard while road tripping so bear with me), but I’m sending huge hugs to everyone who checked in on me💛 All is well. Honestly I feel so light and content, the universe has its way of giving us exactly what we need :)

This is me. A living walking dancing petri dish of bacteria and electrons, and insistently unshakable joy. I’m just so excited about life, about the progress in making my little insignificant life my own masterpiece.✨ Heading halfway across the world into the desert, two flights down, two to go. First stamp on my new passport here we come :) 🇯🇴☺️

Well there may be a hurricane headed this way, but we’ve been treated to some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets this week. My friend 📷@masha.photo is visiting and we’ve made it a point to be outside for all of them💛 Thinking good thoughts for my home as the rains start coming in, stay safe everyone. Also sending love to all my friends across the seas dealing with disasters, particularly in #Lombok and the floods in #Kerala. #hawaii
