#TAKEOVER: "Innocent defenders. The majestic, beautiful and highly vulnerable Sea Lion are under threat from dangerous oil drilling in the great Australian Bight. You will never encounter such an intimate joyful connection with any other mammal than you would with these guys. It was such a pleasure and Mother Nature handed the magic of the underwater world to me once again. Honestly, I wish I could have stayed there. Freediving and underwater photography not only gives you the time to shoot but also really allows you to immerse yourself and become a part of another world on one breath.
Thanks for keeping up with my takeover this week! Check out the short film I’ve been working on with @canonaustralia, now on IG TV.” - @iamjuliawheeler

#TAKEOVER: "Flow Connection. Champion Freediving couple, Michael and Emily Bates doing things the water way. On one breath, I have limited time to establish what I want to achieve however I use my buoyancy control (emptying my lungs to sink a little more) to guide my angles and body in certain ways to capture light. Sometimes I end up rolling around 12-15m underwater or even at the surface and feel ridiculous but the shots can look awesome. Firstly I consider my depth and work my way to the surface from there, shooting multiple dives if I need to. Also the time of day which was important for this shoot. I wanted the light rays to come in on a low angle so I decided to shoot later in the afternoon. Emily and Michael were both wearing their wedding attire so a safety diver assisting me with a float was paramount to the shoot. Clothing is always so heavy when waterlogged and can really set the scenes for a challenging underwater shoot unless the divers know exactly what they are doing (which brings me to the point that I would not try this at home). To provide the illusion that we were a little deeper than we actually were, I remained underwater longer and went to a deeper depth than Emily and Michael so that I could frame them and take multiple shots within one dive. It was really cool to shoot with these guys because of the natural synergy between them." - @iamjuliawheeler

#TAKEOVER: "Standard Levitation. Champion Freediver @YoramZekri walks the blue line between a paradox of pressure. Underwater photography is one of the greatest and most enjoyable forms of capturing an image. This shot in particular wasn’t the hardest one to shoot because I was working with a champion Freediver - master in the art of underwater body control. The concept was simple yet so was the divers ability to nail this shot within a few goes! I wanted to create an image of Yoram walking on water which means he needed to go upside down and remain in a vertical position." - @iamjuliawheeler

I have had these shots from Castle Hill, New Zealand for a few months now, while I decided what I wanted to do with them. Castle Hill is probably my favourite close spot to shoot at, which is only an hour from the city but the sky is very dark still.
I shot the sky with the @FornaxMounts Lightrack II star tracker as a panorama with a 40% overlap, one minute each exposure. The milky way core was so bright and close to the horizon, it looked massive being so close to the landscape.
A few nights later I revisited Castle Hill after sunset during the blue hour, put my tripod in the same place and shot the same scene, with the extra light it was possible to use a lower ISO making for a cleaner final image with less noise and more detail." - @paul_wilson_images

“It’s difficult to take a bad photo in Japan. Everything just seems so much more aesthetically pleasing over there. The cities are vast, with so much going on, and the landscapes are every bit as scenic as you’ve seen in all the films and photos.” - @itchban
